Successful Living in 3 Easy Steps
You have probably asked yourself this same question over and over.
Well, today we are going to take a look at how we can do just that. Have you ever noticed how some people seem to go through life just carefree and happy?
And yet others struggle to make it through the day?
Why are we so different?
What makes one person carefree and another always in defeat?
Let’s look at a man that you may have heard of…
Although we do not have very much to go on from history…
We do have a lot to go by when we read between the lines of what is said and what is not.
I preached a message a while back entitled “Pleasing God”.
And from my research on the man Enoch in scripture, I came across some pretty interesting things that shed some light on what made him set apart from others around him.
First of all, let’s look at his name…
Enoch, from Chaanak, which signifies to instruct, to initiate, to dedicate.
Hebrews 11:5 says,
5 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, and was not found, because God had taken him; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
He was obviously a God-pleaser, because the Bible tells us as much.
21 Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah. 22 After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. 23 So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. 24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.
How to live a successful life.
First, we see his name means to instruct.
Anyone who is a good leader must first be a good follower.
Thus a good teacher must be a good pupil.
To be teachable helps one to learn…
But, more importantly, to be pliable, or mold-able.
A know-it-all never gets too far in life, do they?
We have all been a know-it-all about something, and then BAM!
It hits us and knocks the wind out of us.
And there we are laying flat of our backs looking up, wondering what happened.
You laugh because it has obviously happened to you!
We are never too old to learn something new.
He has never even turned on a computer!
He is in his eighties…
THAT IS TEACHABLE!
We also need to pass on to others what we have learned, thus the completed cycle of ‘to instruct’.
Second, we see Enoch’s name means to initiate.
Some of the most fulfilled people I know initiate conversations, giving to others and in starting relationships.
When is the last time you initiated anything?
Initiate…I believe Enoch was initiated in worship.
He obviously had a great relationship with God.
And, that did not come about by simply hiding in a corner, or having a pity party.
A relationship takes work, and it must come through commitment.
Commitment to each other.
Relationship has always been a two way street. Both give and take.
Want to have a successful life?
Form relationships that last…
With God first, spouse second, family and friends next.
Find someone who challenges you to grow, stretch yourself…
Then find someone you can help to grow and stretch.
Third, we see his name means to dedicate.
People who are dedicated have a strength that lasts and lasts.
People of great faith have some of the most driven dedication.
Hebrew 11:6 tells us …6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Enoch was a man of great faith, we have already read that.
Successful living doesn’t come cheap or easy.
A price has to be paid.
We have to put others before ourselves, self-serving goes out the window.
Dedication is what we must possess in order to be successful.
Dedicate ourselves to learning God’s word, teaching others what we learned…
Helping them grow as we have…
Initiate building true Christ-centered relationships.
When we have done all of this…
To Your Success!
And the best part about it is, we teach you EVERYTHING.
